The Christmas Party was held at Denry’s Restaurant in Burslem– Denry’s is a favourite haunt of the Group, located in the centre of the Town of Burslem in the heart of the Potteries. We had obtained our “usual” table in the cellar of the restaurant – an unusual and cosy venue. Shown above left are the 2007 UK Group raffle prizes.

Autumn Meeting 2007 Wilmslow, Cheshire

 
The 56th meeting of the UK Group was held in Wilmslow, Cheshire Our hosts were Bob and Myra Roalfe pictured left with Jan, Diana and Joanna

Gathered for Dinner

 

On Saturday Evening, everyone gathered at the Bulls Head Pub in Handforth,(above) then on Sunday, everyone met at Menzie's Pinewood Thistle Hotel For the day. In true UK Group tradition, the meeting was very enjoyable and the day soon passed by. Below, Francis Kiddle gave us an interesting talk on his other passion, Stamp Collecting, below right

Our Autumn Meeting also revealed the winner of the UK Group's 2007 Devotee Award. In the same way that the International Belleek Collectors Society annually recognises the work of an individual within the Belleek Society, the UK Group recognises the work and effort put into the group by one of our members. Each year, UK Group members vote for the person who they personally feel should receive the award. The winner this year (above)is our Newsletter compiler, temporary editor and avid Belleek photographer, Chris Marvell. We were delighted that Patricia McCauley was able to travel over from Belleek to present the award personally to Chris.

Summer Meeting July 2007 AGM Portsmouth

 

Our Summer meeting, which was held in Portsmouth, was hosted by Pat and Brian Russell. Pat and Brian have hosted meetings before, including a memorable excursion to the Isle of Wight. They always manage to include an event which is new and different – this time was no exception, they had arranged a “Skittles Evening” (bottom image)at the Royal Maritime Club: this was to be on the Saturday evening. First, however we were invited to Pat and Brian’s home for lunch and to view the Belleek and a look through Brian's copies of early registrations of Belleek Wares(below left and right).

Spring Meeting March 2007 Coventry

 

UK Belleek Collectors gathered in Coventry on March 10th/11th at the invitation of Pat, Paul & Patrick Tubb.
Lunch at the family home was  followed by a variety of activities in and around the City on Saturday afternoon

Later, members gathered for a superb evening meal at the Greyhound Inn, Hawkesbury Junction, where the
Oxford Canal meets the Coventry Canal. In true UK group tradition everyone really enjoyed themselves..

On Sunday members gathered at Historic Weston Hall Hotel which was our venue for the day. Parts of the hall date back to Tudor times.

 Our guest speaker was 'Flog It's' David Barby who addressed the group most informatively and entertainingly regaling us with tales of his professional life as a Chartered Surveyor and Valuer and his work in television, especially BBC's Flog It programme. David illustrated his talk by bringing along a selection of antiques from his own collection to share with us. Below, David recalls the day a Blue Neptune Tray set complete with Kettle was brought into a 'Flog It' valuation day and subsequently sold to one of our members at the auction which was recorded and shown later in the year.

Following lunch Mary Lovell told us of the history of Porcelain painting and ended with a demonstration of her skills in this area. Members were fascinated to see how she could create such delightful decoration with a few strokes of her brush

Finally a most entertaining Bring and Tell concluded a weekend which had just flown by in a welter of friendship and fun.
