It's been a great year for meetings in 2011. Our first gathering was during March when we met up in Cornwall, then our Summer AGM at our usual central Coventry location, then an international convention in Chicago which certainly kept nine UK full members and a good number of our associate members very busy! As Autumn began, we met in the Peterborough area for the first time and then our thoughts turned to Christmas which this year which was hosted by Elaine and Paul Ewings at their home on the Friday and then at the famous Christmas Market in the beautiful City of Lincoln on the Saturday. Please see photo highlights below - our newletters with full information on these 2011 meetings will be made available during 2012 as they go on-line.

We had a lovely Christmas Party weekend. On Friday evening, Elaine and Paul Ewings looked after us all very well, with lots of ingenious canapés served on Belleek Earthenware platters and continually topped up wine glasses. Saturday was very busy at the Lincoln market, it had a real Christmas buzz and many of us were able to look round the Cathedral whilst the choir were practicing their carols, dinner at the Wig and Mitre was some of the best 'pub fare' we have had for some time.

The raffle was drawn during Friday evening and the prize winners were Diana Awdry and Chris Reynolds who won the first two prizes as shown above. we also learned that the UK Group honouree for 2011 was .......a very surprised Pat Tubb who will be presented with her well deserved award at our Spring 2012 meeting in Portsmouth.

Autumn Meeting Peterborough Area 2011 hosted by Diana Awdry
We met during October for our Autumn Meeting. This was not a grey and drab Autumn weekend but the tail end of a mini heatwave for the UK which had begun a few weeks earlier. Left, Diana's home, basking in the sun. Not wanting to miss the good weather, group members below enjoyed Saturday lunch in the blazing sun on Diana's patio (below). Below that image is one of Diana's displays of Belleek and fans. We then all gathered in the evening for dinner at The Benefield Wheatsheaf. On Sunday we all gathered at the Bridge Hotel for our meeting. A full report will follow in our next newsletter which will be available on line towards the end of the year and for members and associates posted during early spring 2012.

Coventry July AGM 2011 Hosted by Eileen and Bernard Burgham

Group Members at Saxon Mill Group Members at Saxon Mill
Saturday Dinner was at the Saxon Mill, Guys Cliffe, just outside Warwick. It was a great evening and the old converted mill was at a beautiful location by the river. The mill still had its cast iron water wheel above the mill race which passed under the building - this was still on show but no longer functional. Tables were set out on the 'fiver' (above right) where we first met for pre-dinner drinks. Above left, inside for dinner. Below, here is Charles Easthope with Maureen Munton and below that, some of the wonderful pieces of antique Belleek brought along to our annual 'Silent Auction'

Above left and right,Note the extensive marking of this rare Lace pattern tray held up by Elaine Ewings: it has the first black printed mark and this is also impressed - the figure "1" indicates its colourway and there are printed and impressed registration diamond marks

Members assembled once again on Sunday at the Weston Hall Hotel for the July meeting and silent auction, followed in the afternoon by the AGM. We were all delighted to welcome Maureen Munton to the meeting. Maureen was the guest of Charles and Fiona Easthope. After coffee and a chat, our Chairman, Pat Russell, thanked everyone for their good wishes on her receipt of the MBE. She was proudly wearing her medal and had brought along an album of photographs of the special day when she received the award from Her Majesty the Queen. Pat Russell announced that the book by Jean Weleck could be purchased at a cost of £5 towards Group funds. Other leaflets, brochures and old collectors' magazines were available for a donation in aid of the potters' headstone fund. Bids for the silent auction could be made up to the commencement of the business meeting. Bev Marvell had brought along part of her crop of courgettes for people to help themselves.

Earthenware
On Sunday we held our meeting at the Hannafore Point Hotel. Simon gave us an update on his research into Belleek Crested and Commemorative ware. An article will be included in our first Newsletter of 2012. Neville Maguire (right) led a discussion on Belleek Earthenware including some of the pieces shown above. Neville is shown here discussing the mark to this very early Earthenware Platter. Eagle eyed collectors will however, spot an example of Parian 'Coalisland' ware amongst the grouping above . Several Group Members commented on the strong vibrant colouring of the 'Fumaria' pattern oval dish (centre)..
